Callie is stunned to be hit with a malpractice lawsuit after an Olympic athlete and patient of Cristina's comes to her for an experimental procedure which leads to a devastating chain of events. Months later, the stress of the trial forces Callie to face up to her feelings about her separation from Arizona and her residual grief over the amputation. Meanwhile, the doctors attempts to rally around Callie in her time of need, but Arizona soon finds difficulty drawing the lines while Callie's father returns to Seattle to support his daughter, revealing life-altering family secrets in the process. Meanwhile, flashbacks reveal secrets about Callie and Arizona's marriage in the wake of her amputation.
