Arizona begins to deal with the physical and emotional pain of her amputation when she begins to experience Phantom Limb Syndrome, but she finds herself trying to keep Callie distanced from her plight. Amidst a flux of pregnancy hormones, an unbalanced Meredith is forced to face her fear of flying to save a patient while Derek operates on a patient who's recovery was halted by his own injuries. Meanwhile, April attempts to run a busy E.R and Alex's attempts to save his Africa programme from being cut finds an unlikely ally - Cristina.
- "Patients who undergo an amputation often feel sensation where the missing limb was, as if it's still there. The sensation is called Phantom Limb. It's as if the body can't accept that a terrible trauma has occurred. The mind is trying to make the body complete again. Patients who experience Phantom Limb report many different sensations but, by far, the most common is pain."
- "The mind holds out hope that the body can be whole again. The mind will always fight for hope, tooth and nail, until it finds a way of understanding this new reality and accepts that what is gone is gone forever."
- "Time To Run" - Lord Huron
- "Someone" - Future Of Forestry
- "Forever" - Matt Hires
